Korea National Railway (KNR) is the national railway organization of the Republic of Korea, responsible for railway infrastructure planning, construction, modernization, network management, and the implementation of railway investment projects. In September 2020, the organization changed its name from Korea Rail Network Authority to Korea National Railway, and it now plays a leading role in guiding the development of the country’s railway network at the policy, technical, and engineering levels.

KNR is not limited to domestic projects. It is also active in the international market in areas such as feasibility studies, planning, engineering, technical advisory services, and capacity-building training for railway projects. Its official international cooperation records also include activities related to Mongolia, including studies carried out in 2019 and training programs for Mongolian railway officials.

In relation to the Ulaanbaatar Metro Project, Korea National Railway has been reported as participating, together with other Korean partner organizations, in the consulting team supporting the project. In this context, KNR can be regarded as an institution capable of providing professional advisory support in areas such as railway infrastructure, system integration, operational readiness, technical standards, and institutional capacity development for the metro project.
